Virginia Tech students often wonder how to best fund their college studies. One of the best ways to find scholarships is to complete the FAFSA application as early as possible. The form will quickly tell you whether you have qualified for any state or federal funding. In addition to this, some of the need-based scholarships offered through Virginia Tech require that students complete a FAFSA application first. After completing the FAFSA application, check out some of the scholarships offered specifically to students who are currently enrolled or who are planning to attend Virginia Tech:

Undergraduate students who are seeking financial aid should head to this website. It provides students with a variety of categories (i.e., general, academic, military, etc.) through which they can receive funding. In terms of the academic scholarships, many of these awards are given out depending on the college that the student will enroll in. For example, the College of Engineering offers a variety of scholarships to students who hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. In order to apply for these awards, students are required to respond briefly to an essay prompt that asks their views on which technologicaladvancement has most impacted society. The scholarships themselves range in value from a one-time award worth $500 to a renewable scholarship worth $5,000. In some cases, the funding decisions are made at the discretion of a scholarship committee within the department while in other cases the applicant is required to attend a personal interview with the scholarship sponsor. Additional information about this scholarship is available here.

Prospective students who are interested in studying in VT’s Honor’s College, should check out the multiple scholarships opportunities which can be viewed at this link. These scholarships range in value from a low of $1,000 to a full ride scholarship that will cover the entire cost of attending VT for four years.

Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarship Initiative: This scholarship is only open to students who reside in VA and who graduated from a VA high school. Each applicant is required to attend VT on a full-time basis and show strong academic merit, leadership potential, and demonstrate a high level of financial need. The highest priority for this scholarship is given to students who will be the first in their family to attend college. Students who are chosen as the recipients of this award receive a number of perks. The scholarship covers the complete cost for four years at Virginia Tech. This means that the student does not pay for room and board, tuition, or student fees. In addition, these scholars receive additional mentoring from faculty and students, a unique student orientation, special activities to build community engagement, and enrichment activities. Students are required to complete the FAFSA application prior to January 15th in order to be considered for this scholarship. At the time of application to VT, each applicant is automatically considered for the VTPSI scholarship. As such, students do not need to worry about completing a different application form for this award.
