Students who are interested in attending the University of Tennessee often wonder what scholarships are available to help them fund their studies. As a first step, all students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA application as early as possible. This form will help students determine whether they have qualified for any federal or state funding. In addition to the FAFSA, UT has a number of school specific awards that are offered each year to students of different academic levels. Some of these awards are open only to new students while others are open only to continuing students who are already enrolled in the university. Check out the list below for some University of Tennessee scholarships:
Volunteer Scholarship: This scholarship was created to honor an incoming freshmen student who holds at least a 3.8 grade point average and who has been engaged in volunteer work. Students are eligible to renew this award provided that they are enrolled on a full-time basis and that they achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average during their college career. The actual amount of the award depends on two factors, which are the residency status of the student and the student’s exam scores. Students who are out-of-state residents who hold a 34-36 on the ACT exam can receive up to $18,000 per year. Students who are from Tennessee who score in the same range can receive $8,000. Lower amounts of funding are available to students with lower ACT or SAT scores. Additional information about this scholarship can be found here.
Continuing Undergraduate Scholarships: Students who are already enrolled in UT and wish to be considered for a scholarship can apply for one through this funding mechanism. It is important to note that students will likely need to complete this application each year, as their financial situation may change from year to year. In order to get started, students should fill out the Continuing Student Undergraduate Scholarship Application, during the open cycle. The form remains open between January 3rd and February 1st. In addition to completing this form, students are encouraged to check with their academic department in case additional forms are required. More information about these awards can be found here.
Chancellor’s Scholarships: Students who are interested in applying to these awards should make sue that they apply for admission to UT prior to the November 1st deadline. A separate application form will be sent via e-mail to students who have been offered admission to UT. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must submit additional information before the December 15th application deadline. This scholarship is only available to students who are entering UT for the first time. All of these scholarships are based solely on academic merit and as such, require students to hold a 4.0 grade point average and at least a 31 ACT score. The scholarships range in value, but up to $7,000 is available per student. Additional information about these awards is available at this website.
