The Courage to Grow Scholarship was designed to assist future college students realize their educational dreams and aspirations. The program believes that obtaining a college degree takes much courage and determination. They realize that many students give up due to financial constraints and other factors that make forgoing a college education much more appealing. Additionally, they recognize that concern about finances takes away the student’s focus from their studies. The program hopes to ease these constraints by providing small scholarships each month.
Any high school junior or senior is eligible to apply for this award. Additionally, current college students are also considered for the scholarship. The award has very few additional eligibility criteria. Students must have at least a 2.5 grade point average and be a citizen of the United States.
In general, finalists for this scholarship are chosen twelve times a year. About one week after each application deadline, a finalist is selected. The scholarship money will not be dispersed to the applicant’s institution until proof of grade point average and proof of current enrollment in college are received. The scholarship will not exceed $500 and every winner will also receive an award certificate.

Given the number of applications received, students are encouraged to spend time on their essay. While the award may not seem like a very high amount, there are likely less people applying for smaller scholarships, any student who is eligible is encouraged to apply for this award. Several smaller scholarships may negate the need to obtain a large, more competitive scholarship.
