High school soccer athletes may not have thought to look for a sports scholarship for college. However, there are a number of soccer scholarships that are able to help promising students fund their education. Most of these scholarships require students to play on a soccer team at the collegiate level, thus, it will be important to consider whether you want to continue your commitment for the duration of your college career. Below are some scholarships that are open to students who play soccer:
Augustana College Athletic Grant: This award is open to students who have already been accepted into Augustana University. Both new students and students who are continuing their studies are eligible to apply for this award. The exact amount of the scholarship ranges from $10,000 to $18,000 per academic year. The award is renewable. All students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, at minimum, in order to be eligible for these awards. The awards can be used to cover the tuition, student fees, and room and board. The scholarship is only awarded to students who excel in academics and in athletics. California State University at Bakersfield Albert Holloway Memorial Scholarship: This award is open to current students at CSUB who participate in athletics. NJCAA Division I Scholarships: These awards are used to help junior-college soccer players afford their education. Both men’s and women’s teams are each given 18 scholarships, which can be divided up among players in the form of full-rides or partial scholarships.
William Woods University Scholar-Athlete Award: This award is one of several achievement scholarships that the university supports. The amount of the award ranges from $3,000 to $5,000. In order to be eligible, students must have achieved at least a 27 on their ACT Exam. Students are eligible for this award even if they have received a separate athletic scholarship. NCAA Division I Scholarships: Nearly 200 different universities offer men’s soccer scholarships. Over 300 schools offer these scholarships to women who play soccer. Each women’s team is allotted 14 scholarships while men’s soccer teams are only awarded 9.9 scholarships per team. The allocation of the money is left up to the college. As such, some students receive full-funding while others may receive a partial scholarship. Additional schools may participate in Division II athletics, and they are offered funding at a lower level to support student-athletes.
Mike Lozano Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship provides $5,000 to a high school senior from Texas. In order to be eligible, students must have been involved in athletics and hold at least a 2.0 grade point average. There are no restrictions on the type of university where the student can use the award.
