Scholarships for Women Foreword
Many scholarship opportunities exist to help women students return to college to obtain an undergraduate or graduate degree. Some of these awards were created to increase the number of qualified women in fields where women are traditionally underrepresented (i.e., STEM). Other women scholarships are aimed at celebrating the achievements of noteworthy women leaders or to empower young women to strive to reach their educational goals. Below is a list of some of the best scholarships available for women.
Code Like a Girl Scholarship for Women
Code Like a Girl Scholarships provides scholarships worth $1,000 to undergraduate and graduate female students who are using a degree in the field of technology. The award is offered annually and five lucky women will receive money to defray the cost of the studies. Students must be in at least their junior year or higher of college studies and must hold at least a 3.40 grade point average. Advancing Women in STEM Scholarships
Advancing Women in STEM Scholarships provide awards worth $6,000 to current college students who demonstrate high financial need. Students must have completed one full academic year at the college level, with at least a 3.0 grade point average in order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship. The American Physical Society/IBM Internship for Undergraduate Women
The American Physical Society/IBM Internship for Undergraduate Women provides financial support to women who are in their sophomore or junior year in college. This award is only open to female students who are majoring in one of the following fields: biology, engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, or a related field. All applicants must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average. This scholarships offers women a scholarship worth $2,500 as well as the opportunity to complete a 10 week research internship in CA, TX, or NY under an IBM mentor. Cindy Monroe Values & Vision Scholarship for Women
Cindy Monroe Values & Vision Scholarship provides awards worth $31,000 to female students from TN. This scholarship was created to honor Cindy Monroe, who is the founder of the Thirty-One Gifts company. The award is open to students who are in their junior or senior year in Hamilton County. All applicants must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average and must plan to attend school full-time after their graduation from high school. National Hispanic Business Women Association Educational Scholarship
National Hispanic Business Women Association Educational Scholarship awards scholarships to Hispanic women to encourage them to develop their careers in the business field. These awards are open to California women who pan to attend an accredited college or university within the United States. Both undergraduate and graduate students, hold at least a 3.0 grade point average, are eligible to apply for this award. Students must demonstrate financial need and be involved in their community. Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award
Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award offers scholarships to women who are the main breadwinner in their family. These awards are geared towards women who have overcome daunting challenges, such as homelessness, poverty, or domestic violence. The scholarship is unique in that it is a cash award and the money may be used to defray the cost of tuition, textbooks, childcare, transportation, and other related educational expenses. The amount of the local award vary. Women who win at the local levels are eligible to win additional awards worth $3,000-$5,000 at the regional level. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship for Women
Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Dr. Anita Borg, a female leader in the field of technology. Each recipient of this award will receive a scholarships worth $10,000 for the next academic year. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants will be chosen based on academic merit and leadership abilities. In addition to the financial renumeration, all winners will be able to attend a special retreat. In order to be eligible, students must be females in their senior year of high school. Students must plan to enroll at an accredited university within the United States and must plan to major in a computer science or engineering field. Only students studying full-time will be considered. Additionally, students must hold at least a 3.5 grade point average. Completed applications, which include submission of a resume, academic transcripts, two recommendation letters, and four brief essays, must be received prior to the December 1st deadline. The Sara Scholarship for Women
The Sara Scholarship provides scholarships to young women who are in their final year of high school. The award provides women with $2,000 per year, which can be applied to tuition, textbooks, room and board, or other educational expenses. These awards may be renewed up to there additional times. Any high school senior who plans to pursue a college degree may apply for this award. Applicants are required to demonstrate academic excellence, a strong moral character, financial need, and involvement in golf. The Washington Women in Need Education Grant
Washington Women in Need Education Grant provides scholarships to low-income women in the State of Washington. These awards were created to support women who are seeking a better future for themselves and their families. The award is open to female residents of Washington State who have been accepted to a college of university in Washington and who plan to attend full-time. Additional information can be found here.
Women have a substantially higher amount of scholarships dedicated to them as compared to men. Go out and take advantage of these opportunities ladies! Though I’ve listed a decent amount here, the scholarships for women are actually endless. Apply to as many as you can and maybe you’ll save yourself some money.
