Many scholarships exist to assist Filipinos make a college education within reach. Some of these awards are funded by the federal or state government while others are funded through private organizations. Check out the scholarships below that cater to Filipino students:
Benigno and Corazon Aquino Scholarship: This scholarship is offered to Asian American students who attend Boston college. One finalist receives $15,000 towards their last year at the college. Other runner-ups are selected to receive $1,000 gift certificates to the BC bookstore or a $3,000 tuition scholarship. In order to be eligible, students must be a junior at BC and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Asian American Journalists Association: this organization offers a number of scholarships to students who are Asian. In addition, they maintain a long list of additional awards that are open to Asian American students. Gates Millennium Scholars Program: this scholarship is funded through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is open to a number of different minority students, including Asian students. Undergraduate students may complete a degree in any major. Graduate students who received the award while they were an undergraduate are eligible for the award provided that they major in a STEM field. The award provides coverage for the full cost of tuition and provides mentoring opportunities. In order to be eligible, students must be residents of the U.S. and demonstrate financial need. Additionally, all applicants must have at least a 3.3 grade point average. Students must also have demonstrated leadership ability and community involvement. Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund: this program provides scholarships to Asian students that range in value from $2,500 to $5,000. In order to be eligible, students must identify as Pacific Islander or Asian. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for the award. Students are required to complete the FAFSA application. USPAACC CelebrAsian: these scholarships range from $2,500 to $5,00 and are open to current high school seniors. Each year, about 15 awards are offered to students of Asian descent. Asian Pacific Fund: this foundation hosts 12 different scholarship programs that are geared towards Asian and Pacific Islander students. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for the awards. One scholarship, the Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund provides five separate awards worth $,5000 each. These awards can be renewed up to a total of four years. In order to be eligible, students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and be an incoming freshman at any 4-year college or university. Students must be majoring in a major related to one of the following fields: math, engineering, science, or computer science.
