Students who are planning to attend college often wonder where to look for college scholarships. One of the best ways to find scholarships is through organizations where you are a member. One such example is the Phi Theta Kappa organization, which offers a wide variety of scholarships to student members. Below is a list of some of the scholarships that are awarded through this organization:
Associate Degree Scholarships: These scholarships provide members with more than 200 different scholarships. Each scholarship is valued at up to $1,000. A full list of the different scholarships can be found at this website. For example, the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship offers 200 scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members who hold at least a 3.5 grade point average. In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours. Some of these scholarships are set aside exclusively for members of the military. Each of these scholarships is worth $1,000.
The Oberndorf Lifeline to Completion Scholarships are also open to Phi Theta Kappa members who are pursuing an associate’s degree. There are 15 different scholarships awarded each year, each of which is valued at $1,000. In order to be eligible students must hold at least a 3.0 grade point average and plan to graduate within the next year and a half. Additional information about these two scholarships, and other scholarships for students pursuing an associate’s degree, can be found here.
Bachelor’s Degree Scholarships: Students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa are eligible to receive more than 250 different scholarships for college. The amount of these awards range widely in value, from $1,500 to $30,000. The Hites Transfer Scholarship is open to members who are transferring to a four-year college. There are a total of 10 scholarships available and each one is valued at $7,500. The Coca-Cola New Century Scholars Scholarshipoffers students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree twenty scholarships, which are each valued at $5,000. This award is also open to students who are not current members of Phi Theta Kappa. All students must be nominated by someone on campus, demonstrate community engagement, and show strong academic achievement. Additional information about scholarships for students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees can be found here.
Master’s Scholarships: Students who are pursuing a Master’s degree and who are also members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society are eligible for funding. A list of current opportunities can be found here. One such opportunity is the GEICO Pathway to Completion Master’s Degree. This program provides two awards which are valued at $2,500 each. Only students who are alumni of Phi Theta Kappa and who already hold a bachelor’s degree can apply for this scholarship. Students must already be enrolled in a graduate program in order to be considered for this award. The highest priority is given to students who have been officers, either at the regional, international, or chapter level of Phi Theta Kappa.
