Cosmetology is rewarding, but the training and coursework can be rather expensive. Whether you train in a traditional college or pursue a certificate program in a school of cosmetology, there are usually cosmetology scholarships for which you can apply. You may think that, because it is a specialized field, you need to pay your own way through school, but that’s not the case.
Using types of financial aid like scholarships and grants, you can get your education without having to rely on student loans. Those can be expensive, and they follow you forever. There are many more scholarships than you may have thought, for students in cosmetology. We’ve listed a few below.
Beauty Schools Directory $2,500 Scholarships
If you’re ready to pursue your schooling in cosmetology, which also includes makeup artistry, skin care, esthetics and barbering, you can apply for these Beauty School cosmetology scholarships. They are awarded four times each year, and you can use them at almost any college or beauty school in the United States.
They choose recipients based on the people who submit their applications before each quarter’s deadline, so be sure to get your application in early. Eligibility criteria and more information is available on their website.
Vidal Sassoon Professional Beauty Education Basic Scholarships
These scholarships are designed for new and prospective students in the field. They have their competitions in the spring and fall of the year. Each one will award 10 winners with scholarships that cover one half of their tuition costs at qualifying schools of cosmetology, up to $10,000. Hans Neumaier Memorial Scholarships
The Professional Beauty Association offers cosmetology scholarships, generously funded by lifetime PBA member Hans Neumaier. His career in beauty and hairdressing spanned 70 years, and for 55 of those, he was a member of the Professional Beauty Association. Mr. Neumaier’s story is one of dedication to the beauty industry, which he loved.
This scholarship awards a maximum of $1,000 each to five or more lucky winners every academic year. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a cosmetology school that is PBA accredited, at a full-time status. You must also be a current student member of the Professional Beauty Association.
The fall application deadline for these cosmetology scholarships is on August 31, 2015. The scholarships are expected to be open for the next academic year, as well. Recipients each year are notified through email when they have won. The scholarships are administered by the Foundation of the Professional Beauty Association. The PBA chair appoints a committee to review all scholarship applications and all awards are final.
