Students with asthma face the daunting challenging of moving away from home with a medical condition. Just as struggling to get enough air can be difficult, so too can the hardship of finding tuition money to offset the cost of college. However, many scholarships were created specifically for students with asthma. Check out the asthma scholarships below, to see if you might be able to get some free money for college:
Schering-Plough Will to Win Asthma Scholarship: This award is given exclusively to students with asthma who are in their last year of high school. In order to be eligible, students must hold at least a 3.5 grade point average, be a citizen of the United States, submit a completed application prior to the deadline (this includes letters of recommendation, a brief story, high school transcripts, and any awards), have been accepted into a college or university, and must show promise in athletics, visual or performing arts, community service, or science. The amount of the award varies.
Google Lime Scholarships: Google provides students with scholarships of $10,000 for college. In order to be eligible, students must have a disability and must be planning to major in a computer science or highly related field. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for this award, provided that they are a full-time student. Students are required to demonstrate leadership ability, strong academic promise, and complete an application prior to the deadline. Students must submit demographic information, educational history, three essays, two letters of reference, transcripts, and a resume as part of the application process. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Scholarships: This foundation offers scholarships to students with asthma. One such award is called the Award of Excellence. Details on all available awards become available on the website in summer and students can apply directly from the website. Students should check back later in summer for the details of the award, as the amount of the award varies depending on funds available. Drs. Lockey, Fox, Ledford, and Glaum Scholarships: This scholarship is available to high school students who are patients at the office of Drs. Lockey, Fox, Ledford, and Glaum. Only students who are citizens of the United States, who plan to attend college in the US, and those who show academic promise will be considered. In order apply, students must submit a recommendation letter, an essay, and their high school transcript prior to the August 31st deadline. The award is not renewable. Colorado Allergy & Asthma Centers Founder’s Scholarship: This award provides a scholarship worth $1,000 to current clients of this center. The award is available to students in their last year of school school, undergraduate college students, and graduate college students. Students must attend an accredited post-secondary college or university and be a US citizen.
