Since 1937, Toyota has been one of leaders in making affordable cars. With products such as the fuel efficient Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Prius, their products attract highly educated consumers who care about affordability and the environment. Their high earnings have made it easy for them to realize the importance of their consumers, higher education, and community. As a result, they created several philanthropic opportunities to give back to the community. Toyota is unique in that most of their scholarship programs are awarded through partner organizations. As such, students will need to apply directly to the foundations in order to be considered for the scholarship. Below is a list of some Toyota scholarships:
HSF/Toyota High School Scholarship Fund is offered through a partnership between the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Toyota. This award is open to high school seniors who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and who come from a Hispanic background. Most of the awards are in the amount of $5,000, but the actual amount of the award varies. Furthermore, students must plan to enroll at an approved institution.
Toyota-TEMA Scholarship is offered with a partnership between Toyota and the Youth for Understanding organization. These awards are given out based on academic merit and cover the cost of a study abroad program in Japan, Brazil, or Germany.
Toyota Financial Services Making Life Easier Scholarship provides awards of up to $20,000 to students pursuing a higher education. In order to be eligible, students must be between the ages of 16 to 26 years old. Only students who are members, alumni, or staff of one of the eligible partner foundations (such as Boys and Girls Club or KidWorks) are invited to apply. A full list of eligible organizations can be found at this website: https://www.scholarshipamerica.org/toyotafinancial/information.php.
The award is open to students of all levels, from high school through graduate students. A high school diploma or GED is required and applicants must have at least a 2.0 grade point average. Each year, over one hundred awards between the ranges of $1,250 to $5,000 are given out. These awards are renewable for up to three additional years.
Students can only apply for this award through an online application. The essays require students to describe a meaningful experience that impacted their life and to describe how their service in the community has impacted them personally and influenced their career goals.
The application deadline for this award is November 6th. Winners are chosen based on a combination of their essay responses, demonstrated financial need, community service activities, and outside ratings. Winners will be notified and payments will be made twice per year directly to the student’s school or university. Additional information about the application process can be found online.
