Scholarships for Girls

With recent pushes to promote equity among the work force, an increasing number of funding agencies have created scholarships exclusively for girls. Some of these awards are offered through individual sponsors while others are offered through large organizations. Additionally, some money is available through the government, either at the state or federal level. Thus, it is important to complete a FAFSA application to determine whether there are any scholarships for girls that you may qualify for. Sara Scholarship

Sara Scholarship

This scholarship is open to high school seniors who are female. In order to be eligible students must be active in the sport of golf and must plan to attend college. Each year, 12 new students become the recipients of Sara’s Scholarship. Applicants are required to show financial need and have a minimum of a 3.1 grade point average. The scholarship may be used to cover the cost of textbooks, tuition, or room and board. Applicants are required to submit a completed application prior to the May deadline. Girls Inc. Lucile Miller Wright Scholars Program

Girls Inc. Lucile Miller Wright Scholars Program

This scholarship was established in 1993 with a generous donation of over $3 million dollars. Each year, several different scholarships are awarded. The exact amount of the awards varies between $5,000 to $20,000. The money can be applied to cover the cost of tuition or other education expenses at any 2-year or 4-year university that is accredited. In order to apply, students must be in their junior or senior year of high school. Job’s Daughters Supreme Scholarships

These awards are open to students who are single females. Students from a variety of educational levels (high school through graduate school) are eligible to apply. The amount of the award varies, but is typically worth $1,500. The program has several different scholarships. Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to female undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in computer engineering or computer science. In order to be eligible students must hold at least a 3.5 grade pint average and attend college on a full-time basis. Recipients will have the opportunity to visit Mountain View, CA where they will attend a Google Scholars’ Retreat. The scholarship is worth $10,000 and applications must be received prior to the December deadline.
