The Palmetto Fellows Scholarship was founded in 1988. It is a merit-based scholarship that awards scholarships valued between $6,700 to $10,000 each year. The award can be renewed for up to ten semesters, depending on the student’s program. The Palmetto Fellows scholarship is a scholarship that is only available to students who have graduated from South Carolina High Schools. The application process is managed through the South Carolina Commission of Higher Education. In general, applicants apply through their high schools during their senior year.

SC Hope Scholarships

Students who are interested in applying for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship should first make sure that they meet the general eligibility requirements. All applicants must be a resident of citizen of both South Carolina and the United States. The award is not open to students who have received SC Hope Scholarships, LIFE Scholarships, of Lottery Tuition Scholarships. The applicant may not have any legal trouble, such as a felony on their record. Additionally, the student must be enrolled in a SC high school and must intend to enroll in four-year college or university within the state of SC. In addition, students who are attending a prep school out of state, but who are SC residents, may also apply for the award. Students are indeed able to renew the scholarships provided that they maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average after 30 credits of coursework, which must be completed within their first year of college.

The amount of the award varies depending on education level and major. Incoming freshmen are awarded $6,700. For the following three years, students can receive $7,500 since the amount of the award for upperclassman is higher than that of freshmen. In addition, upperclassmen may be eligible for the Enhanced Scholarship, which provides $10,000 to students majoring in math and science. This Enhanced award is only available for a total of 6 semesters and does not begin until the student completes at least 14 credit hours in math and science at the college level. The scholarship can only be applied towards the cost of tuition. In addition, the award is divided up between fall and spring semesters.

The awards can only be used at eligible institutions within the state of SC.
