Being a leader is something to aspire to be. Whether it is in the classroom, on the field of play, or in the community, leadership qualities are not easily found and they can be hard to develop. But, with the right work, these attributes are something that can make life more enjoyable, create a difference in the world, and propel individuals to the next levels in their lives. Jesse Brown Scholarship

Being in the military is a show of leadership in and of itself. It requires grit, determination, and work to be a successful member of this group of individuals who protect the United States on a daily basis. Active duty service members and those that are veterans demonstrate tremendous leadership and the Jesse Brown Scholarship was developed to promote these qualities in young students. The Jesse Brown Leadership Scholarships are given to young students who have given back to their communities through amazing amounts of volunteerism. Those that wish to apply must demonstrated that they have participated in these community-driven activities and have given at least one-hundred hours in volunteer work at their local VA or other veterans’ organization. All individuals looking for this financial award must be accepted into an accredited university, college, or vocational school and must be nominated by and have a recommendation from a leader at the VA Medical Center in their community. DAV Department Commanders can also provide this recommendation. Further, in applying, proof of residency, financial need, and demonstration of classroom abilities must also be provided in accordance with the application criteria. Among the different providers of leadership scholarships are those from large corporations and organizations. The Comcast Leadership Scholarships are an example of this business backing. If a student lives in an area where Comcast provides cable or phone service, they are able to apply for this amazing award. Students that successful demonstrate that they have leadership qualities, both in their respective classrooms and their communities, are encouraged to fill out an application. These young leaders can earn up to one-thousand dollars in financial aid for college.
