Each year, thousands of Idaho students return to school to pursue a college degree. Some of these students attend local colleges within the state of Idaho while other students head to universities that are out-of-state. If you have Idaho ties and are planning to attend college (or are currently enrolled in a college or university), see below for scholarships that are geared towards Idaho students:
Idaho Opportunity Scholarship: This award provides scholarship funding to students who are both residents of Idaho and who have graduated from an Idaho high school. Students must complete a FAFSA application and a scholarships application prior to March 1st. Only students with at least a 3.0 grade point average will be considered for this award. Students must plan to attend college on a full-time basis and must also attend one of the eligible colleges. Students who are making good progress towards their degree may be eligible to renew the award. Idaho Governor’s Cup provides about 25 scholarships to high school seniors who anticipate attending a college or university in Idaho. The scholarship provides students with $3,000 in scholarship money and it may be renewed for up to four years for bachelor’s degrees and up to three years for technical degrees. Students must graduate from an Idaho high school and be an Idaho resident. Only full-time students who have at least a 2.8 grade point average will be considered. Additionally, the application process requires that students take either the SAT or ACT test and write a brief essay about their goals. Students who have demonstrated leadership, community engagement, and public service will be given highest preference for the award. Tschudy Family Scholarship provides awards to Idaho residents based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement. These awards are only open to students who are graduating from Emmett High School. Students must plan to enroll at an eligible college on a full-time basis and have at least a 2.6 grade pint average. Students must submit a FAFSA application and a scholarship application prior to February 15th. The award provides students with $2,500 in funding which can be renewed for up to five years.
Idaho Armed Forces/Public Safety Officer Dependent Scholarship provides $500 for books plus a fee waiver and on-campus housing to eligible students. In order to be eligible, students must have a parent or spouse who was killed or injured in an armed conflict while they were serving. Students must graduate from an Idaho high school and be a permanent resident of Idaho in order to be eligible for this scholarship. Furthermore, students must plan to attend an eligible institution within the state of Idaho.
Other Idaho scholarships are offered by individual colleges and universities. Thus, it is important that the students inquire with the Admissions Office or the Financial Aid Office to determine their eligibility for additional Idaho scholarships.
